Q.
Why do carved bone beads have tiny round holes on the surfaces in addition to holes drilled for stringing? Thank you.
- Sally
A.
Bone is a cellular, natural material; small holes are part of the building process of the structure of bone. Some bones have a more dense structure than others; some are as smooth as polished stone while others can appear like the surface of coral.
