Topics: Headpins, Size

Q.
How does the gauge of the headpin coordinate with the size of the headpin?
- Gwanda
A.
Since the headpin is made of wire, it is measured in gauges. Common gauges for headpins range from 18-gauge (thick) to 26-gauge (thin). Choose the gauge that will go through the bead hole. For example, a freshwater pearl will have a small drill hole so you will likely need a 24- to 26-gauge headpin.

The size of the headpins relates to the linear measurement, or how long it is, and is usually sized in inches. Headpins come in 1/2 inch to 4 inches long. This variety of sizes accommodates short dangles to long dangles.
