Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Upper Bukit Timah, Singapore

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
Visual and emotional aspects inspire me to create things on my beading table. Bold colors always attract my eye so I make it a point my creations has this eye-catching factor aside from the forms that comes out from the design itself. My mood I would say is the major key when creating my designs. The lonelier I am, the better the outcome would be because I'm fully concentrated towards self-healing. I am far more happy seeing admiration and satisfaction on people's faces when they wear my work. For me, feeling happy helps heal my inner aches and pain.

What medium do you work with mostly?
I just love glass beads, seed beads, rocailles, crystals and semiprecious stones.

Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?
I used to create jewelries just for myself to wear. My friends started to push me to create for them as well. From then on, I decided to keep creating and my style started evolving from simple ones to a more sophisticated style.

Where and How do you sell your jewelry?
I sell some in my ebay store, etsy, birthday parties and at charity fund raising events.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
The Red Angel

What inspired this design?
I have a collection of angels around me. Charms, pendants, crystal angel earrings and even angel figurines. I found the focal pendant with an angel image in it in Perth in one of my travels and I was happy to add it to my stash of personal collection. I had used seed beads to be able to hang it as a pendant to the entre design made of several cabochons bought in Singapore and Philippines.

How did it come together?
I always sit in front of my beading table littered with boxes of beads. I pick some colors that can complement each other and start threading my flexible needle. I just love needle work in most of my designs. I normally start beading from the middle of the design. Finish half of it and once I find it was ok, I duplicate that part to make the other half to create the whole piece in a well-balanced form. I had used several techniques in connecting all the cabochons and pendant through combinations of peyote, right-angle weave and spiral as well.
