This wooden dapping set is used to shape softer metals into domed rounds by hammering into the depressions. The set is made of European Beech wood, suitable for up to 16-gauge gold, silver, copper, brass and aluminum. Unlike metal tools, wood tools are less likely to chip, scratch or mar precious and plated metals. To shape sterling silver, Argentium® silver and other metal noted as half-hard or hard, the metal will first need to be annealed.

Rectangular dapping block with 12 half-round depressions
One doming punch.

Depressions come in four shapes with one shape on each side of the block: 18-32mm round, 18x12mm-40x30mm oval, 16x12mm-34x28mm teardrop and 18x16mm-35x30mm heart. Depressions measure 4-8mm deep for rounds, 2-6mm deep for ovals, 2.5-6mm for teardrops and 2.5-5.5mm for hearts.

Use with a rawhide, nylon or wooden hammer. Color of wooden block may vary. Punches may have minor surface imperfections.

Depressions of this dapping block are also useful for creating domed shapes with jewelry-making clays.
