Sifter with 40-mesh screen is used by jewelry artists to distribute dry enamel onto the surface of the metal evenly, and can be used to separate impurities and coarse particles from enamel to provide improved results.
Mesh is the number of openings in one square inch of screen. There are 38 mesh sizes from 4 to 1,200. 40 mesh is a medium size.
