Selenite is a luminous variety of gypsum, which has been wax-coated to protect the stone and create a smooth polish. The translucent silvery stone can have inner striations, creating somewhat of a cat's eye appearance at times. Top-drilled faceted point shapes are especially popular when creating celestial-inspired or metaphysical jewelry.

Named after the Greek goddess of the moon (Selene), selenite is associated with the crown and third eye chakras and is believed to promote mental purity and serenity. It is thought to compel the holder to complete self-honesty and is used by crystal practitioners to cleanse other stones.
