I met with a gallery owner recently who wanted a huge commission to sell my jewelry. I was completely turned off and left without making a deal with her. Now I am re-thinking my decision. Should I go back and see if her commission is negotiable?

It certainly would not hurt to continue the conversation. However, your instincts and reactions to the value that other people place on your jewelry is valuable information. Something offended you about the high commission she wanted.

In general, you do not want your emotions to rule your intellect when you are involved in a business discussion. It is important to realize that she was simply putting forth what was in her best interests: the highest commission possible.

Next time this happens, don't be offended. Instead, many people find that if they think of the negotiation as a game, they are less offended by initial offers that seem insulting.

You should always have in mind the lowest amount that you are willing to accept for your jewelry. Stand firm. You want to feel that you have a win-win agreement with the gallery owner. If not, you can comfortably walk away from the offer.
