When I use a pattern found in a magazine, how do I get permission to sell or teach that pattern?

In many magazines, contact information for each artist is provided. If that is the case, contact the artist who designed the pattern and explain to them your interest in their work/pattern, the type and location of the event(s) you want to teach at and how many people you plan to teach at the event(s).

If the contact information for the artist is not available, send this same information to the publisher of the magazine and ask them to forward the information on your behalf.

Some jewelry making books may include patterns that can be taught and/or sold. Explore the Books and DVDs section to see if any interest you.

As another option, you may use many of the projects found the Gallery of Designs for non-commercial educational purposes. Once you find an instruction sheet you'd like permission to use, please email copyrightpermission@firemtn.com for more information.
