Try using a sticky note to mark where you are in a peyote stitch pattern. Align the edge of the sticky note along the bottom edge of the beads of the current row of your pattern. This will make it easy for your eyes to quickly see what row you're on. Move the sticky note down to the next row on your pattern each time you complete a row.

Another technique is to number each row at the beginning and the end of the row, then place a straight edged ruler on the corresponding number on each side to ensure you are on the correct row at all times. If you are using the printable seed bead graph paper for a customized peyote design, it is easy to pre-number each line before putting your design on the paper.
