I want to put a star sapphire into a ring setting. What needs to be done so that the back won't scratch during wearing?
- Renee
Since star sapphires are usually cut as cabochons, you should set the stone in a bezel mount. This type of ring setting may be open, or partially to fully closed on the underside, depending on the style.
Some styles require setting with traditional stone setting methods, while other settings work with an appropriate glue. In either case, the back of the stone is protected from wear.
