Hi, I would like to make charms using polymer clay and crystals (gluing them back on after baking) and then apply a shiny glaze so that the charms are glossy. Is this possible over the crystals or will they lose their sheen?

Crystals rely on light passing through the facets to create brilliance, so adding coatings can dull them. If you are using crystals with a foil back, such as a flat back, or beads with an AB finish, you are more likely to keep more of the original shine.

It would be worth experimenting with. We haven't tried to do this with all crystals and products. Some topcoats will dull the shine of crystals more, and some will have minimal effect. You might consider trying Diamond Glaze™

Alternatively, you could apply the topcoat or glaze with a small, fine paintbrush only to the clay parts of your charms, avoiding the crystals as much as possible.
