How to Polish Glass

video

See how to easily repair and polish glass jewelry pieces with grinding wheel discs for the Jooltool™ sharpening and polishing system. Tutorial courtesy of Jooltool.

Disclaimer: When using your Jooltool, remember to tie your hair back, use safety glasses and, when you're not using the vacuum, use a respirator.

Instructions

Step 1

Attach a 20-micron (very fine diamond) abrasive disc to the Jooltool™, abrasive side down. Turn the Jooltool on low to medium speed and apply water by dabbing a finger into water and carefully applying it to the rotating abrasive side of the disc.

Firmly hold the glass piece that wants polishing with both hands, gently grind the area containing the chip or blemish along the center of the abrasive side of the disc for five to ten seconds. Turn off the Jooltool and remove the disc.

Tip: It's important not to grind along the edge of the disc and adjust the scratch pattern by moving the piece around during use of each disc.

Step 2

Repeat Step 1 using a medium Trizact™ abrasive disc and a medium to high Jooltool rotation speed.

Continue to smooth the piece using a Fine Trizact abrasive disc then a Very Fine Trizact abrasive disc using approximately the same speed.

Step 3

Use a Cerium Oxide abrasive disc and a very low Jooltool rotation speed. While polishing, apply more water and pressure than was used in the other steps to give a wet look to the glass.

Note: There will be a small amount of white high-polishing compound discharged from the cerium oxide disc.
