Lava beads are often waxed, but if you want to make aromatherapy jewelry, you'll want to remove that wax so the essential oils can be absorbed. Chris, from our photography team, walks you through the easy steps to remove wax from lava beads.
Instructions
Place your strand of lava beads in a bowl of hot water. Swirl the beads to make sure they are completely covered with the water.
Allow the beads to sit for a few minutes (approximately five minutes).
Tip: Using boiling water can cause the beads to discolor or break apart.
Use tongs to remove the beads and place them in a paper towel. Rub beads with the towel to remove the wax coating.
Tip: The beads will appear to be much duller when the coating is removed.
Apply a small drop of essential oil to a bead then place in the desired bead cage.
