Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?

Chennai, India

What inspires you as a designer-artist?

Indian Culture and my heritage is my biggest inspiration, followed by the materials, colors and techniques that I work with. I aim to narrate interesting stories with my designs and my collections.

What medium do you work with mostly?

I am a mixed media jewelry artist and work with a combination of metal, paper, fiber, beads, resin and wire to bring my creations to life.

Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?

Like many other designers, I too began my jewelry journey by working with beads. Slowly I incorporated textiles as I am a fashion design graduate. Over the years as I experimented with wire, paper, leather, resin and sheet metal I was drawn to combining all of them to create one of a kind pieces.

Where and How do you sell your jewelry?

Most of my collections are sold online through Facebook and the rest through artisans' fairs. I also do a lot of custom work based on designs available on my site.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?

Purva Raga Necklace

What inspired this design?

Purva Raga is inspired by the Story of Radha and Krishna, one of the greatest myths and Godly love stories of India. It's a glimpse of the eternal love story of Sri Krishna and Radha Rani which is filled with unconditional love and devotion. Theirs is a story of two soul mates forever separated yet together in their minds--a symbol of the purity of love.

How did it come together?

As red is the color of love, I have chosen a red colored fabric to create the necklace that is stuffed with hollow beads. The focal is divided into two parts--the first half represents the moon and the second half the sun--soul mates much like Radha and Krishna.
