Patricia Parker

Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?

Quakertown, Pennsylvania

What inspires you as a designer-artist?

The play of light through the trees, fields of wild flowers, the colors of the different seasons throughout the year. I am very influenced by my environment.

Since I am a self-taught bead worker there has never been the restriction of right or wrong ways of doing things to limit my creative process, and I try to challenge myself by learning new techniques and trying new materials.

What medium do you work with mostly?

Most of my work is done using seed beads with larger glass beads or gemstones for accents and focal stones.

Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?

I find working with beads both stimulating and relaxing, and find I can get lost for hours in a project.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?

Summer's Day Dream

What inspired this design?

The sunflowers growing next to my front door.

How did it come together?

This necklace, like so much of my work, evolved as I created it. I began with a vague idea of how I wanted to make and let the details work themselves out as I progressed.
