Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?

I live in Houston, Texas.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?

Most of my artwork is organic and reflects my interest in naturally-occurring shapes. In addition, my artwork follows a ''what if'' style, whether I'm creating my polymer clay beads, or a painting, or a collage.

What medium do you work with mostly?

For my jewelry designs, I work with polymer clay beads that I make, combining them with crystals, seed beads, and other types of beads.

Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?

As I began working with polymer clay, I became intrigued with the way I could manipulate the colors to create paint-like effects.

Where and How do you sell your jewelry?

I usually sell by word-of-mouth. But, several of my designs can be found on my website. I list my jewelry, my handmade paper bowls, embellished with beads, my paintings--most of all, though, people come to me and request certain ''looks'' to design for them.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?

Beach Dreams

What inspired this design?

I love working with colors that I find in nature, love the beach, and incorporate shells in a lot of my chunky bracelets.

How did it come together?

First, I gathered the colors that I wished to use in the bracelet. I have about forty or more boxes of beads from which to work! Then, I began attaching them. First with one type of bead then another until I filled up the bracelet to my satisfaction. This one became a gift to one of my nieces.
