Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?

Grants Pass, Oregon

Describe your artistic style:

Ingenuous. My style tends to be simple, childlike, innocent.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?

My inspiration is learning new trends and the comeback of polymer clay and resin! I love combining polymer clay miniature food with jewelry designs.

What medium do you work with mostly?

Polymer clay, seed beads, gemstones, and crystals.

When and how did you start making jewelry?

I started crafting and working with polymer clay as a "stress relief" hobby. It was very calming and therapeutic for me. I soon had a lot of items that I had made and wore. Co-workers would comment, asking if I could make them items. (Customized items are my favorite!) I started at Fire Mountain in the Distribution Center and with the encouragement of my co-workers and managers, I was inspired to become a Jewelry Designer.

What role does jewelry making play in your life?

This is my new career. I left the Corporate World after working in hospitality for the past 25 years. It is a dream being able to do what I love and getting an income!

If you use jewelry to bring an income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?

I do sell my jewelry. As I mentioned before, I LOVE custom items that people request. It can be a favorite food, toy, product, childhood or fond memory. You can contact me at elaine.youngagain@gmail.com

Have you donated your jewelry to charity fundraisers?

Yes, when I first started working with polymer clay, I was working for a Hilton Double Tree. Double Tree hands you a warm chocolate chip cookie upon checking in. So, I made a Cookie Pin I wore with my name on it. Soon employees wanted to buy one for themselves. I donated all proceeds to the local Ronald McDonald House.

Advice for aspiring jewelry makers:

Don't let anyone discourage you from your passion or hobby. It just might pay off in the end.
