How to Start a Turkish Roundmaille in Chainmaille

Close a smooth jump ring, place it on a wire or wire tie and twist the ends shut. This will provide a grip while the design is very short. This will be a row of one jump ring.

Pass a small smooth jump ring through the first jump ring and close. Repeat to pass a second small smooth jump ring through the first jump ring, creating a row of two jump rings side-by-side.

Pass one small smooth jump ring through both jump rings in row two and close.

Pass one small smooth jump ring through one of the two jump rings in row two and close. Repeat to attach a smooth jump ring to the other jump ring in row two. This will create the first row of three jump rings.

Position the three jump rings in row three side-by-side forming a triangle. Pass one small smooth jump ring through one corner (one edge of two jump rings) and close. Repeat to attach a jump ring to the other two corners of the triangle.

Note: Once this row is complete, the triangle form should stay in place.

Repeat Step 3 using twisted jump rings below the previous smooth rings.

Flip the twisted jump rings down along the edges of the previous row, revealing a triangle of twisted jump rings inside.

Pass one smooth jump ring through the corner of two twisted jump rings, inside the previous smooth jump rings, and close. Repeat to attach one smooth jump ring to each corner of two twisted jump rings.

Repeat Steps 3 - 5 until the desired length of Turkish roundmaille chain is created.
