Making macramé leaves is fun and easy when you follow along with these full knotting instructions as demonstrated jewelry designer Jude.
Instructions
Cut seven 24-inch lengths of cord and one holding cord slightly longer than the width of your macramé board.
Secure the holding cord across the macramé board.
Fold one 24-inch length of cord in half then attach to the center of the holding cord using a lark’s head knot.
Repeat with the remaining cords, positioning each snugly next to the previous cord added.
Move the rightmost cord to the left, over the other cords, and pin at a 45-degree angle. This is now the holding cord.
Create a double half hitch knot with the rightmost knotting cord. Moving left, repeat with the remaining knotting cords.
Unpin and move the holding cord to the leftmost knotting cord position.
Bring the knotting cord second from the right to the holding cord position.
Move the rightmost knotting cord to a waiting position on the right.
Repeat Steps 5 and 6 eight more times, leaving cords in the waiting position to result in less knotting cords each time.
Repeat Step 5 once more.
Release all cords in the waiting position back to knotting positions.
Move the most recent holding cord to the right over the knotting cords, parallel to the previous knots, and pin. This is now the holding cord.
Create a double half hitch knot with the leftmost knotting cord. Moving right, repeat with the next two knotting cords.
Release the holding cord to the fourth from the left knotting cord position.
Move the leftmost cord to the right and pin in the holding cord position.
Create a double half hitch knot with the leftmost knotting cord. Moving right, repeat with the next three knotting cords.
Move the holding cord to a waiting position on the right, then bring the leftmost knotting cord to the holding cord position.
Using one additional knotting cord each time, repeat Steps 12 and 13 until the second half of the leaf is completed.
Cut and singe each of the knotting cords. For additional security, apply adhesive to the cut ends.
