Instructions
Cut the following lengths of sterling silver 2mm cable chain:
Cut a 2-1/4 inch length of Gossamer™ 0.5mm sterling silver beading chain.
Use the largest punch in a 12-piece round disc cutter set to punch out a disc from a sheet of 28-gauge copper sheet. Then use the same punch to punch a disc out of 28-gauge sterling silver sheet.
Slide the sheet part-way out from the hole you just cut in the sterling silver sheet, until you see a crescent moon shape inside the hole for the punch. It should take up roughly half the space inside the punch hole. Tighten your disc cutter then punch out the crescent moon shape.
Tip: Lubricate the punches with PRO-CUT™ wax lubricant before punching to promote smooth cutting and the longevity of disc cutter set. Leave the lubricant on your cutter set to help protect the metal from rust.
Use a 1.5mm round hole punch to punch a hole 1.5mm from the edge of the copper disc. Make a second hole exactly opposite the first on the opposite edge of the disc. Use flush-cutting pliers to snip off any burr on the back of the disc around the exit holes. Use a coarse sanding pad to sand the back of the disc to further smooth out the burrs.
Lay the round disc on top of the crescent moon so their rounded edges align and the top tip of the moon is under one of the holes with 3mm space from the tip. Use a fine tip marker to mark the hole placement on the crescent moon through the present hole in the round disc. Then use a 1.5mm round hole punch to punch the marked hole in the moon. Then use flush cutting pliers to snip off the burr at the exit point of the hole. Sand down the rest of the burr with a coarse sanding pad.
Use a coarse sanding pad to smooth out the edges of the round disc and crescent moon shapes. Take special care to smooth out and blunt the tips of the moon. Follow up with a medium sanding pad.
With a coarse sanding pad, sand the back of the crescent moon in one direction to create a brushed finish. Then do the same on the front of the crescent moon.
Buff the front and back of the moon with a Sunshine® polishing cloth to bring out the shine.
Place the round disc on a steel block. Apply a hammered finish evenly, to the round disc, using the ball-peen end of a chasing hammer.
Place disc between two steel blocks. Hammer the top block with a brass hammer to flatten it back out, as the metal will have curled up as you apply the hammered finish. Do this as needed during the process of applying the hammered finish.
Use a coarse sanding pad to sand the back of the disc in one direction to clean it up and add a semi-brushed finish. Then use steel wool to sand the top of the disc.
Use a Sunshine polishing cloth to buff and bring out the shine on the front of the disc.
Slide the end of the 2-1/4 inch Gossamer 0.5mm sterling silver beading chain into a 5x2mm sterling silver crimp end, making sure you can see the tip of the chain in the loop of the crimp end. Pull the chain back just enough so you no longer see the tip, then crimp the center of the crimp tube tightly with the tip of fine chain-nose pliers. Flip the crimp tube around and crimp it down a second time from the opposite side.
Thread the following 6mm crystal beads onto the chain:
Thread on one 1mm sterling silver crimp tube, let it fall against the crystal beads, then crimp it flat using chain-nose pliers. Use flush-cutting pliers to cut off the excess chain beneath the crimp tube. If you feel a burr, use a medium sanding pad to smooth it out.
Open a 4.5mm 19-gauge sterling silver jump ring and add on the 2-inch, 1-1/2 inch and 1-inch lengths of chain. Then add the jump ring to the bottom hole of the copper disc with the 1-inch length of chain in the front.
Add a 5mm 20-gauge sterling silver jump ring to one end of the 17-1/2 inch chain. Then add a 5mm 20-gauge sterling silver jump ring to the opposite end of the chain, threading on the loop of an 11.5x7mm satin sterling silver infinity lobster claw clasp before closing the jump ring.
Open another 5mm 20-gauge sterling silver jump ring then thread on: the top hole in the round disc, then the top hole in the crescent moon, both facing forward, then thread on the loop at the top of the crystal beaded chain, then the 17-1/2 inch chain. Then close the jump ring.
Cut the following lengths of sterling silver 2mm cable chain:
Then cut a 1-3/4 inch length of Gossamer 0.5mm sterling silver beading chain.
Use the 1-inch punch in a 12-piece disc cutter set to punch out a disc from a sheet of 28-gauge copper sheet.
Use the third largest star in a star cutter set to cut a star out of 28-gauge sterling silver sheet.
Use a 1.5mm round hole punch to punch a hole 4mm from the edge of the round disc. Make a second hole exactly opposite the first on the opposite edge of the disc.
Punch a hole about 4mm from one tip of the star, being careful to leave equal spaces on both sides of the tip.
Use flush cutters to snip off any burr on the back from the exit holes of the round disc and star. Use a coarse sanding pad to sand the back of the round disc and star to further smooth out the burrs from the exit holes as well as the edges. Take special care to smooth out and blunt the tips of the star. Follow up with a medium sanding pad.
With a coarse sanding pad, sand the back of the star in one direction to apply a brushed finish. Repeat on the front of the star. Then buff the front and back of the star with a Sunshine polishing cloth to bring out the shine.
Place the round disc on a steel block. Apply a hammered finish evenly using the ball-peen end of a chasing hammer.
Place the round disc between two steel blocks and hammer the top block with a brass hammer to flatten it back out, as the metal will have curled up as you applied the hammered finish. Do this as needed during the process of applying the hammered finish.
Use a coarse sanding pad to sand the back of the round disc in one direction to clean it up and add a semi-brushed finish. Then use steel wool to sand the top of the round disc, followed by a Sunshine polishing cloth to buff and bring out the shine on the front of the disc.
Slide the end of the 1-3/4 inch Gossamer™ 0.5mm sterling silver beading chain into a 5x2mm sterling silver crimp end so you can see the tip of the chain in the loop of the crimp end. Then pull the chain back just enough so you no longer see the tip. Crimp the center of the crimp tube tightly with the tip of fine chain-nose pliers. Flip the crimp tube around and crimp it down a second time from the opposite side.

Open a 4.5mm 19-gauge sterling silver jump ring and add on the 1-1/4 inch, 3/4 inch and 1/2 inch lengths of chain. Then add the jump ring to the bottom hole of the round disc with the ½ inch length of chain in the front.
Open a 6.5mm 19-gauge sterling silver jump ring and thread on the copper disc, the star (both facing forward), the loop of the crystal beaded chain and a 5mm 20-gauge sterling silver jump ring. Then close the open jump ring.
Attach an 18mm 21-gauge sterling silver flat fishhook ear wire to the 5mm jump ring. Make sure the earring is oriented forward on the ear wire.
Repeat Steps 1 – 9 for the second earring.
