A Pastel Mood

By Polly Lent, Design Idea MH5P

A pastel color palette is always a perfect overlay to fairytale dresses, sparkling gems, decadent tablescapes, ethereal flowers and more for memorable special days. Here are tips and design ideas for incorporating romantic pastels into weddings for everlasting beauty.

This pastel mood is conservative with a twist as brides seek multiple dresses for the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception and more. And with each different look comes a different pastel-colored jewelry ensemble. Individuality is key, as couples want to make the wedding day as personal as possible. Use initials/monograms, coordinates of wedding location, custom place settings and jewelry that shares a story or holds a special meaning.

Colors

Dress

Dresses get a colorful update with dreamy blues, soft greens and delicate pinks, and floral patterns that bring pops of color to traditional hues like cream and ivory. Popular necklines include asymmetrical, scoop, mock and off-the-shoulder silhouettes. Dress styles are varied with separates, cropped-length dresses, long sleeves, ball gowns, feathery frocks, high-low hemlines, ruffled tulle and lined sheer styles proving popular. And for those who want something a little different, suits with slightly flared pants for a '70s vibe.

Flowers

Local wildflowers, greenery, peonies, pink roses, ranunculus, hydrangea, dahlias and magnolias are perennial favorites.

It's in the Details

With invitations printed on seed paper for planting after use, sourcing local products, reducing excessive portion sizes, donating flowers to a local hospice or encouraging guests to take them home to enjoy, the emphasis is on sustainability.

Wedding Favors

Show your appreciation for your family and friends with favors they can use and enjoy. Embellished wine charms, organza pouches, filled bottles, luggage tags and seed packets are all gifts they will want to keep, and homemade cookies, local honey or jam, tea and DIY S’mores are delicious treats that are also sweet reminders of your wedding day.

Jewelry and Accessories

Bridal jewelry and accessories are gleaming with gemstones, luxurious pastel-colored pearls and crystals. Design with blue, green and peach gemstones like peach quartz, green aventurine and angelite. To add sparkle, use Czech fire-polished beads for a soft shimmer or try Crystal Passions® beads and fancy stones for a sharp, clean look. These elements work well in statement earrings, necklaces, eye-catching bracelets, headbands and barrettes. Personalized pieces like vintage lockets and brooches combined with detailed filigree components tell a story with one-of-a-kind charm.
