Midnight Garden
Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
The tropical climate that I live in inspires my art. Palm trees and the beach, wildlife and blue skies.

What medium do you work with mostly?
I work in glass fusing.

Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?
I wanted to create my own focal pieces and take my jewelry making to the next level.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Midnight Garden

What inspired this design?
The smell of sweet orange blossoms in the evening air.

How did it come together?
My process starts with cutting the glass and layering it, then firing at a high temperature up to 1700 degrees. Once my cabochon was fired I put it on the ring saw and cut my shape, then it was time to etch my design. I do a lot of sketching, but in this case I simply etched using my DremelĀ® tool, right on to the glass applying a ZentangleĀ® technique and it just started coming together.

Once the design was etched it went back in the kiln for a fire polish. It was then finished by placing it in a silver-plated bezel and a neck cord was added.

And this is the finished piece you see. It was sold as a gift for a gentleman's wife. She was very pleased with the piece.
