Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
Lake Worth, Florida
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
Fascination with geology inspires me to showcase the immemorial and everlasting wisdom and natural beauty of our world through wearable art. My business name is GeoGema Alhajas. GeoGemas are geologic gems. Alhajas are timeless, highly valuable treasures. As such, GeoGemas are historical jewel gifts from our world.
What medium do you work with mostly?
Beading, wire wrapping, and Metal Clay (bronze and white copper) jewelry focused on geology and conchology gems such as fossils and Florida seashells.
Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?
Ammonites are some of the most widespread of all fossils and are found throughout the world; yet, are very misunderstood and misrepresented. Like other gemstones, ammonites can be of gem quality and value based on their size, color and luster, source of origin (established by sutures), clarity and quality of sutures, etc.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Forest of Life
What inspired this design?
I am inspired by trees as symbols of life – the meaning of life: The importance of seeing the whole forest as well as the individual trees.
How did it come together?
I drew the images and developed them through Water Etching. |
