|Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
While I live in Caracas (Venezuela), every year I spend a couple of months in Oregon with my daughter's family.
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
My inspiration comes from macramé, using exclusively metallic threads tied together through knots. I have been working on this technique for six years. My pieces are bright, lightweight and exclusively feature wire intertwined using knots without any soldering. I create handcrafted macramé jewelry including necklaces, earrings, crowns, rings and bridal accessories.
What medium do you work with mostly?
I work mostly with wires, but some of my pieces also feature embedded crystals.
Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?
I fell in love with my style because I realized that using macramé knots I can create amazing and elegant accessories. Even a simple arrangement of square knots results in a beautiful masterpiece.
Where and How do you sell your jewelry?
I sell my pieces in local markets and fairs. I also offer classes on the technique.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
What inspired this design?
This design is inspired by nature, featuring white callas. Callas are classic, elegant and beautiful. All these attributes match my style.
How did it come together?
To create most of my pieces I start by designing a pattern using graphic design software. Then I calculate how much material and determine what type of wire is required. I am always coming up with new ideas for my pieces.
