Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
My studio is in Lakeville, Connecticut

Describe your artistic style.
I like to combine both new and vintage elements in abstract, graceful and colorful unique designs.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
Nature--and naturally self-confident women!

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Stone, glass, wire and vintage jewelry elements--plus loads of freshwater pearls and crystals.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Wrapped in Luxury Necklace

What inspired this design?
The sheen of foil-lined glass beads, with their shimmer and iridescence.

How did it come together? For example, did you plan it out or did it define itself once you began working?
As so often happens when I gather a big plate of glass, pearls and wire, I began with abstractly wrapping the glass, and then adding light with the pearls.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
In 2003, when I saw a gorgeous, daring necklace in a store window--and the store was closed for the entire time that I was in that city.

Who introduced you to beading?
I taught myself from Fire Mountain Gems' tutorials, magazines and trial and error. LOTS of error!

Do you have an artistic background?
Yes. I have always been a watercolorist. (See my paintings at www.berkshireartist.com)

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
A friend told me about Fire Mountain, and I've thanked her often!

What other hobbies do you have?
Painting and gardening.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
A hobby that has become a passion.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I sell to galleries, boutiques and museum stores. I show them my work via my website www.berkshireartist.com.

Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
Yes. It is such a joy to donate my jewelry to charity fundraising auctions and see the bidding go very high. I've helped charities that mean so much to women in my community.

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Be daring! Experiment and wear your own creations everywhere. You are your own best model and marketer!
