Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Blackshear, Georgia (Southeast Georgia)

Describe your artistic style.
Sparkling!

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
People inspire me. I like to bring them joy by creating something beautiful by bringing their inspiration to "LIFE".

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
So far crystals are my most inspiring pieces to work with. I love the sparkle and elegance they provide.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Mary II

What inspired this design?
My Aunt Mary's faith, her strength, and sense of humor thru her family's bout with cancer. Herself, her husband, and all three children including a son: have all had cancer. She inspires me.

How did it come together?
Every time I talked to my Aunt, she had a warm, bright sparkling faith in God. As I started this bracelet for her, that faith reminded me of the #10 crystal, which was my starting point. From there the bracelet "trickled" down delicately.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
In December on my birthday, I started making bracelets for my friends and family and giving them as gifts.

Who introduced you to beading?
On a beach in Florida, I bought an ankle bracelet from a vendor and it had crystals in it. The Crystals were so beautiful BUT.....the bracelet was just slapped together. I knew I could do better.

Do you have an artistic background?
Yes, studied art all through high school and studied Commercial Art, Ceramics, Painting and Interior Design. I have done pieces of work for friends, community and businesses.

What other hobbies do you have?
I enjoy painting, decorating and photography.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
It's a big part of my life as I am building my business. I get great joy from creating inspirational pieces for others.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
As I am just starting, I have made pieces that I am displaying in several local consignment shops. It will become a good income as I am expanding my outlets and will eventually have a web page. I have photo albums of my work on Facebook for others to see.

Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
Yes, I use the income from my beading to support my personal ministry of helping others in need.

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
If you get an "idea"....Run with it!
