Summer Tree of Life
Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Indianapolis, Indiana

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
I am inspired by nature a great deal. I tend to gravitate towards animals and trees.

What medium do you work with mostly?
This is hard to say because I do a lot of mixed media pieces. I do a lot of polymer clay sculpting, I like to work with gemstones and am a big fan of copper. I also work in the fiber arts quilting and making art dolls.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Summer Tree of Life

What inspired this design?
I have always been drawn to trees. The design I chose is one of my more simple pieces. I like because it reminds me of the trees that grow on the sides of mountains used for bonsai theme.

How did it come together?
My work always defines itself while I work on it, I have a basic idea and know my media, but the end result forms during the work.

Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?
I started collecting and selling vintage and antique jewelry pieces in the '90s when I received a Czech piece that my great grandma received a payment for cleaning houses in the Great Depression. I started repairing pieces and then it moved into making my own. I have always been involved in some form of art since I was a small child, I think this was due to my father being a painter and having us live in an artist commune until I was 5.

What inspired you to donate your bead(s) to Circle of Hope?

Though I have not been affected by breast cancer, I feel it is a cause that can affect all families.
