Meet the Designer-Artist

My name is Jackie Johnson and I live in Columbus, Ohio. I am a professional seamstress with a home-based business that provides me with a ready-made market for my jewelry designs. I get inspiration from clothing people bring to me for alteration. The colors and lines of the garments are a constant source of ideas. I enjoy making people look good in their clothing and adding jewelry is an integral part of that look.

Share Your Background

Throughout the years I have taken many classes in different crafts and needlework, but finally had my ''Aha'' moment when I first saw dichroic glass. I have taken lampworking and fused glass classes. I enjoy working my own unique fused glass projects into beaded jewelry that create a one-of-a-kind design. I have learned several beading stitches and use them in my creations.

For years my clients have asked for something unique in black and white and although I have created other black and white designs, Infinite Sophistication has surpassed them all. This piece developed after many evenings of beading just to relax after working all day. It has become a necklace that can be worn doubled with a loop around the cabochon for a dressier look, or as a pendant with a slide for a more informal look.

Beading Success

I also donate pieces to be auctioned for Breast Cancer Awareness at the James Cancer Hospital here is Columbus. I participate in some craft fairs, but mostly sell my jewelry to my sewing clients. My jewelry business is named Sass n-Glass, because every woman needs a little ''sass.'' You can find my designs featured at www.sassn-glass.com.

If I have any advice for beginning artists, it would be: never stop learning and do what you love.
