Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
Sydney, Australia
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
Art, architecture, nature, fashion, music, travel, have all made their way into my pieces but the common thread has always been color...the luster of a dyed pearl, a multicolored gemstone, a monochromatic blend or an unusual color combination
What medium do you work with mostly?
I like to use seed beads mixed with gemstone cabochons and beads, pearls and crystals in a combination of embroidery and off loom weaving. I also like to include unusual objects like sea urchins, beetle wings and exotic leathers.
Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?
I've always had creative pursuits - made my own clothes, painted, I even worked in a creative field but nothing so far has afforded me the artistic self-expression that creating 'wearable art' does.
Where and How do you sell your jewelry?
I belong to a co-operative of artisans called Craft NSW that runs a gallery/shop in Sydney's historic ''The Rocks'' area as well as on my Etsy shop, Kaleidoscope Wearable Art.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Olive Harvest
What inspired this design?
The age old way I saw the locals harvesting olives in Tuscany by spreading nets under the olive trees and shaking the ripe fruit from the trees.
How did it come together?
It started with the pearls, I just loved the color and they reminded me of tiny olives...then I gathered the other materials that reminded me of netting, leaves, bark and it kind of just made itself after that.
