Describe your artistic style.
My artistic style varies depending on what inspires me; it can be something basic to something one-of-a-kind.
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
I find my inspiration from all sorts of things. A shirt I see on someone to the colors as the seasons change. Art and people and countries are also very inspiring to me.
What materials do you most enjoy working with?
I love working with Czech beads, wood beads, chain, just about anything I can get my hands on.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
What inspired this design?
This is part of my fall line 2012 called Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice. This design as you can see was inspired by my favorite season fall.
How did it come together?
This design brought itself together. I had a bunch of fall colored beads that I loved right way and this one just jumped out at me.

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I began attempting to make jewelry when I was a young teenager as a way to pass my time; life happened I got married and am now the mother of 3 awesome kids. They inspire me to go for my dreams and as of recently that's exactly what I have done.
Who introduced you to beading?
I was introduced to beading as a young child, my mom used to take me to Native American pow wows when I was a child and I fell in love with the colorful jewelry and the beaded jewelry. I used to sit outside this one booth every year and watch an older gentleman bead necklaces and it was most fascinating to me.
Do you have an artistic background?
As a Gemini my mind is constantly creating things, or seeing something I like and then redoing it my own way. I have a love of art, I write poetry. I also love creating things from scratch.
How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®?
I was searching the internet for information and helpful tips and came across Fire Mountain Gems.
What other hobbies do you have?
I enjoy taking pictures of random things, camping, drawing, reading and of course creating jewelry.
Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
As of now no, but hopefully that will change in the future.
What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Jewelry making plays a big part of my life because the creations and designs are never ending. I'm a stay-at-home mom with my 3 year old son, this helps to occupy my time and I love seeing other people smile when they see or purchase something I've made. It helps me to feel good about myself as a woman and mother.
If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
Currently jewelry-making is a part-time job at home that will hopefully turn into full-time. I use Facebook, friends, and family as a way to get myself out there. I do a lot of custom orders. And am currently working on a fall line. I'm setting my first small goal to do a craft fair this coming October. I enter as many contests as I can. I currently started a page on Facebook, feel free to check it out at facebook.com/AFairMaidenJewelrybyBetonyLee.
Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
I'm currently working on two charity lines. The first is for The National Hemophilia Foundation I have 3 children with different bleeding disorders and this community of awesome people has really helped us out. However some medications for some children within the bleeding disorders community are not covered by medical insurances and parents can barely afford these life saving medications. The second is local animal rescues and shelters.
Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Just go with what's in your heart and soul, learn as much as you can, look at everyday things as inspiration. Never be afraid to try something new. You will in time develop your own way of doing things. Never feel that what you're making isn't good enough. Most importantly feel good about yourself and doing what you do. SMILE always.
