Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Formosa, Ontario, Canada

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
I think most of my inspiration comes from color combinations, usually two or three colors. These I can see anywhere really. I remember one of my favorite combinations (bright orange, magenta and salad green) formed when I was looking through my son's kaleidoscope toy.

Another big inspiration is the beads themselves. Sometimes I would have my eye on a particular color/texture/shape and the design just comes to me from that starting point.

What medium do you work with mostly?
I mostly work with seed beads, but I incorporate all kinds of other materials e.g. crystals, gemstones, fossils etc.

Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?
I am enchanted with the process. It is almost a form of meditation. Quiet place, trays of beads, beads added stitch by stitch and just me and my creative process.

Where and How do you sell your jewelry?
I sell simple jewelry through Etsy: and custom-made jewelry locally.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Window to Paris

What inspired this design?
The inspiration was the technique of texturized 3D "painting" made with seed beads. If you look closely, the window frame and the rain drops are coming out of the background.

How did it come together?
I wanted to make a jewelry piece that is made 100% out of seed beads. I also wanted to create the right texture of drops of rain on the window. I was so inspired by the idea, I think the piece created itself.
