Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
New Jersey
Describe your artistic style.
My style is classic and simple. I like to use a lot of natural, organic materials, and real stones and crystals.
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
My two daughters are what inspire me. I make jewelry that they like to wear along with what they think is trendy. There are also a lot of nature inspired pieces in my repertoire. I like the idea of plant and flower inspired pieces.
What materials do you most enjoy working with?
I enjoy working with natural stones, pearls, sea shells, and glass crystals. There is a certain beauty that comes from an object that was taken out of the ground. It is a unique beauty that I try to capture in my jewelry.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Mermaid's Garden

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
It began as a hobby. I have always been a crafty person. I was always making things. When I started making jewelry, I knew that this is a hobby that I will be doing for a long time. At first I was just making jewelry for myself, then my friends wanted me to make them jewelry, then I started giving them out as gifts. I worked at a craft store, so it was easy to find the supplies I needed.
How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
I worked at a craft store that sold magazines. I picked up a copy of Bead and Button, in it was an ad for Fire Mountain. I instantly thought this was a convenient way to get supplies to fuel my hobby.
What other hobbies do you have?
I like doing other crafts, making handmade cards, scrapbooking, flower arrangements, cooking and gardening.

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Jewelry making is a form of relaxation for me. Once I begin working on a piece, it's like I enter a stress free state.
If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I attend local craft fairs at schools and churches. Jewelry by Marli is also on Facebook.
Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
Yes, I donate to my kids' high school and participate in the charity fundraisers that they hold for the school and other charities.
Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Don't let anyone say that your work is not good enough; it is the product of your creativity. |
