|As a member of an extremely artistic family, I often wondered why the "artistic gene" had bypassed me. Then, one day, I happened upon a table of beads and jewelry-making supplies at a flea market. I was, of course, mesmerized. I took home a small selection and started "playing" with them. I smile when I remember my first efforts and how proud I was of them. Happily, once I got started, I couldn't stop. I discovered Fire Mountain Gems and Beads shortly thereafter. The rest, as they say, is history.
Now I have been beading for approximately 7 years. During that time, I have sold my work in several stores and have been sponsored in a number of "one woman art shows". As my confidence grew, I started entering my work in contests and designing my own graphed designs. I have won several awards and one of my graphed designs is in the October 2005 issue of Bead and Button magazine. In 2005, for the first time I entered items in the Kentucky State Fair. I received 2 blue ribbons (1st prize) and 1 red ribbon (2nd prize). I am especially proud of the blue ribbon from the Fine Arts category.
I prefer to work free-hand and never actually know what a piece is going to be until it is finished. Therefore, it is imperative that I have "mountains" of beads to choose from. Thanks to Fire Mountain Gems and Beads I am able to do that!
