Where do you live?
The big state of Texas. So I guess I'm a little country girl at heart.
Describe your artistic style.
I've never really thought about what my artistic style is, but I'd have to say I have a bit of an ethnic flare in many of my creations.
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
My inspiration can come from several venues. But the most used is my imagination, designs seem to just come to me when I see a certain color or perhaps a photo in a book.
What materials do you most enjoy working with?
I love working with seed beads and wire.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Purple Rain
What inspired this design?
A doodle I had drawn on a page of paper that was laying next to a package of seed beads. Funny how things happen, huh?
How did it come together? For example, did you plan it out or did it define itself once you began working?
It was defined moment by moment, seed bead by seed bead.
When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I started creating jewelry about five years ago. I'm a vintage jewelry collector and wanted to learn how to repair some of my pieces. But now that I've learned the craft of jewelry creation, my vintage collection is always on the back burner.
Who introduced you to beading?
I would have say searching the internet for different artists, but what truly lead me to start using seed beads was the purchase of the Heidi Kummli and Sherry Serafini book The Art of Bead Embroidery. It was this book that taught me the much needed skills to create my
Beaded Collar, which, by the way, was a 2008 Seed Bead Finalist. From that point I was truly hooked!
Do you have an artistic background?
I believe art and creativity must be in my genes. From my mother being an oil painter to my great grandmother's beautiful quilts and hand embroidery. I have an interior design degree and also love to sew.
How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
Fire Mountain was the first supplier I ever ordered from on the internet and has inspired me all along my way in creating beautiful jewelry pieces.
What other hobbies do you have?
Scrapbooking, sewing, fishing (yes I said fishing, love to catch those big bass) and writing.
Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
I am currently a member of the ETSY Beadweavers Team and the ETSY for Animal team.
What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Jewelry making is like having my own personal counselor. If I'm at home with any free time, or even if I don't have free time, you'll find me in my beading room. I hope to make it my full-time career in the very near future.
If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I have an Etsy store and sell my jewelry to friends and relatives. I also enter as many jewelry contests as I'm able.
Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Never give up! And practice makes you better and better.
