Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Leeton, Missouri

Describe your artistic style.
I don't have a style I know of. I just take a piece and work around it.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
The focal item I like and I build around it.

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Any and all. I wish I had learned to work with clay.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Yo-Yo Cameo Necklace

What inspired this design?
The items I had and just trying until I got what I wanted.

How did it come together? For example, did you plan it out or did it define itself once you began working?
I knew the material I wanted to use. Then I worked on the piece and it came together as I did the piece. Sometimes it takes several times to get what I feel is right.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
My daughter-in-law got me into it. I have always enjoyed making things but she got me to work with beads.

Do you have an artistic background?
Nothing special. Just whatever comes my way.

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
Beading magazine.

What other hobbies do you have?
Sewing, crocheting, gardening, raising chickens, beef, my dog, so it is any and all I can do with my hands.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
I work on jewelry when I need to take my mind off things I do not want to worry about. Peaceful time.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I sell mine on the Etsy website.

Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
I have made items to be given as prizes at our local hospital that works with rehab patients.

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Go for it, you never know what it will do for you as a person or for others.
