Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Danville, Illinois

Describe your artistic style.
Freestyle. Anything that comes to mind. However, I do enjoy crocheting with beads.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
Color, color, color. I believe color promotes a sense of well-being and serenity, and what better way than to have beads and material right in front of you.

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Glass, acrylic and wood.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Egyptian Princess

What inspired this design?
Once again, color.

How did it come together? For example, did you plan it out or did it define itself once you began working?
Egyptian Princess defined itself as I worked. The bangles (Hearts Desire and Oh the Elegance) were planned.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
About four years ago my father's girlfriend introduced me to beading. I have always loved working with my hands, what a better way to create beauty.

Do you have an artistic background?
I have always loved crafts.

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
Father's girlfriend, bless her heart.

What other hobbies do you have?
Quilting, renovating home and physical activity.

Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
I live in a small town with few options. However, I could always try to start something.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Keeps me sane. The economy has hit me hard (like so many others). I lost my job of nine years. Beading takes my thoughts away from my troubles. Right now, it's a hobby.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I haven't discovered the best way to use my hobby as a full-time income yet, but would love to. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Beware--once you start, you're hooked. But what a way to go!
