Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Hornbeck, Louisiana

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
God has so many beautiful creations. All I have to do is look around nature and I find my inspiration.

What medium do you work with mostly?
I work mostly with seed beads and crystals.

Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?
I saw a piece of jewelry that a friend of mine created and I loved. I needed a stress reliever from work and so I decided to try jewelry-making. I found I had a knack for it, and it just blossomed from there. Everything that I did I learned first from the stitching guides on the back of the beading magazines that I got.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Fire and Ice

How did it come together?
It took two months for this to finally come together. I knew what I wanted to do, but was having difficulty with the neckpiece part of it. I made two different herringbone ropes and they just didn't look right, that's when I saw the St. Petersburg stitch, and that's when it finally came together. I learned the stitch while putting the pieces together. I even figured out a way to make my little flowers that I wanted using the peyote stitch. Oh what fun that was!
