Guardian Angel

by Lisa Orndorff

My mother died in 1999 at age 52, of colon cancer. She fought so hard to live that she had out lasted any treatments that John Hopkins and her cancer doctor had to offer. Her death has impacted our lives tremendously. She truly set many standards that I myself live by. She never complained about having so many side effects of the chemo, or loss of her hair. She just kept putting one foot in front of the other.

There have been many times since then, when I get down or feel that I just can't go any farther, that I feel her there beside me pushing and coaching me on. Because you see, my husband had a major stroke 6 years ago that left him visually and physically impaired, so I take care of him and I also work full-time. I even went back to school and got my Associates Degree so that I could make better money to help support us. She is truly my hero.
