Mixed media artist extraordinaire Lisa Pavelka is here with a Fire Mountain Fix to answer the jewelry resin question: how can I get Magic-Glos UV resin to the edges of my jewelry project and create a domed effect?
Magic-Glos® is designed to dome. It's not uncommon for it to pull in on the edges for pieces that don't have a bezel wall to hold the Magic-Glos up against it. It usually takes 1 - 2 thin layers before it reaches the outside edge.
Place the piece onto a pedestal made of scrap polymer clay. This will allow you to ensure the piece is level and adjust if needed.
Add a layer of Magic-Glos to the center of the piece. Spread the Magic-Glos evenly to the edges then cure.
If needed, continue to add another layer of Magic-Glos from the center. Spread evenly to the edges, then cure. The piece should resemble a cabochon when finished.
Note: Larger pieces may require additional layers of Magic-Glos.
