by Jake Woolley, Exclusively for Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®

What do you think of when you hear the term "angel?" Likely that of a winged being dressed in white, adrift on a cloud and accessorized with a halo and harp. Sounds like your typical angel, right?

A better question might be to ask what is the feeling or perception that surrounds angels? Feelings of kindness, peace, comfort and protection are qualities often portrayed through the imagery of angels.

Fire Mountain Gems and Beads' focus for 2012 will embrace the idea that "Angels Are Forever." Through creativity and jewelry-making, you'll be able to inspire others and make a difference in the lives of those around you. Think of the feelings that will be expressed from person to person by creating and giving angels. What a wonderful ripple effect you'll create by passing on peace and goodwill throughout the world with the simple gesture of handmade angel jewelry.
The symbolism of angelic figures has been around for thousands of years. Various cultures have portrayed angels through art and music for centuries. As recent as the 1990s, angels in the media really took flight as cinema featured movies such as "Angels in the Outfield" and "City of Angels," as well as entrancing us each week through television with depictions from "Almost an Angel "and "Teen Angel." Today, angels are more prevalent than ever in commercials, books, art and fashion. One of the main reasons for this is that angels help us connect with each other.

Angel inspirations are all around us. Look at the angelic faces of little children and you'll often see the description of a chubby little cherub. We lend our thoughts towards guardian angels when thinking of family members, both living and deceased, that have helped us through hard times. Keeping the warm and familiar Christmas spirit alive all year long is possible through angels when given and received.
With so many artistic views on angels, the design possibilities are endless. As you begin to create angelic jewelry lines the opportunities to inspire and help others will become more abundant and appreciated. Take the opportunity this year to incorporate angels into your designs and share your expression of angels through each piece you create.

Please share your thoughts on angels and new artistic endeavors with us through questions@firemtn.com.
