Wooden dapping block is used to shape softer metals into half ovals by hammering into the depressions. Unlike metal tools, wood tools are less likely to chip, scratch or mar precious and plated metals. Made from the Portia tree hard wood, this block has a smooth, non-marring finish and seven oval indentations with gradual slopes. Indentations range from 1/2 inch to 1-3/4 inches. Use with a rawhide hammer. To shape sterling silver, Argentium® silver and other metal noted as half-hard or hard, the metal will first need to be annealed.
