Is there a way to remove a crimp bead cover from a finished necklace? I used a 4mm crimp bead cover at the very end of my necklace. But I feel my necklace has little flexibility, and the toggle bar of my clasp does not move freely. I think removing the cover and replacing it with a smaller crimp bead cover might take care of the problem. Any other ideas what I could do without pulling my necklace apart?

Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, gently squeeze the crimp cover at the closure point. This should open it slightly. This may allow you to insert an awl to pry the crimp cover open. Do this a little at a time until it opens enough to remove it from the stringing material. Use care, as you want to avoid damaging the stringing material and crimp bead. If you have a crimp cover at each end, remove them one at a time to see if removing just one gives you the extra flexibility you require. If your crimp cover is precious metal, save it for scrap as it will not be fit for re-use. Keep in mind that a smaller crimp cover may give the space needed for extra flexibility. Crimp covers are available in 3mm, 4mm and 5mm sizes.
