Here Are Some Tips to Help You Think Like a Bazaar Ninja

Not all shows are created equal and it's important to find the right shows for you.

  • Date(s) -- Consider when the show takes place. You may want to avoid shows on holidays or holiday weekends, unless you feel the show will be a bring a big holiday crowd. Look at what other things are happening in the area to ensure you're not competing with other events.

  • Location/Weather -- Is the event indoor or outdoor? You may have to contend with weather like wind and rain if your booth is outside. Always have a plan for securing your tent in case of wind. Some suggestions include using ties on corkscrew stakes (if on grass) or large water/concrete containers that can be zip-tied to each tent leg (for concrete).

  • Competition -- Look at how many vendors will be at the event, who you will be near and how many people are selling jewelry too. If possible, research what other vendors are selling and make sure your items are unique.

  • Customers -- Find out how many people attended the year before and the projected traffic for the current show. To ensure you have enough inventory, a good rule of thumb is that 5% of attendees may make a purchase if they like what they see!

  • Your Space -- Map out how far you need to walk from your car to the booth and know how you'll get everything to and from. Hand trucks are smart investments for moving your booth items. Know if you have electricity, Internet and if the venue provides furniture and pipe and drape.

  • Event Rules -- make sure you know the rules for times of set-up and teardown and plan enough time around it. Check if any license or permit is required, a fire extinguisher or a fire-retardant tent.

  • Cost -- Estimate your costs (including your time) to attending the show to make sure it's worth it. Factor in transportation, lodging, equipment, event fees, food and what you're expecting to sell.
