Bake Kato Polyclay™, How-To

Instructions

Make your own beads, unlike anything you've ever seen ~ recreate the look of natural materials such as ivory, turquoise, jade, carnelian, agate, marble and lapis lazuli (to name but a few). You can stamp it, sand it, engrave it and paint it. You can make jewelry, dolls, boxes or vases. The possibilities are endless. Before you can work with the clay though, it must be conditioned. Once you're done creating your design, polymer clay needs to be baked in an oven to harden.

  • Place your finished item into the oven on an oven safe dish--Artists frequently work on ceramic tiles and then bake work right on the same tile, eliminating the need to transfer work from one surface to another.
  • To prevent flat, shiny spots on your beads, bake the beads on loose polyester batting.
  • Bake at 275°F for 60 minutes. (All Kato Polyclay colors, except translucent, may be baked at 325°F for 30 minutes.) the instructions, which has no images. Further steps can be added below, with or without images. Feel free to "copy component" and then add the same component to the "Main Region" which will populate at the bottom of your page. You can do this with components or whole layouts.
