Topics: Getting Started Selling Jewelry

Q.
I'd like to try and sell my jewelry designs, where do you recommend I start?

A.
You're indicating that you want to take your jewelry-making from a hobby to a business--congratulations! It's a good idea before you start selling, if you haven't done so already, to outline a business plan for yourself. This will help determine the answers to a lot of questions that will need to be addressed before you head out with your designs.

Once you have your business plan outlined, you should have a good idea if you're pursuing wholesale, consignment, craft shows, etc. as well as who your competition is in these areas and how they're pricing their work. Assess how your designs fit in with what you know and then prepare yourself and your work.

You'll want to approach the outlet you chose in a professional manner, dressing appropriately as well as presenting your work appropriately.
