Topics: Starting a Jewelry Business

Q.
I've been making jewelry for about six months, and I'm ready to start selling. I'm not sure how to set up a small business. Where can I get help? I can't really afford a consultant or business course.

A.
Undergraduate and graduate business schools and departments often have free ''clinics'' where you can speak with students who will help you set up and develop your business. They'll help you write a business plan, let you know what licenses you need, show you how to determine income and expense categories and lots of other useful stuff! If there's no college or university near you with a business program, check out www.score.org , a non-profit foundation that helps small businesses thrive. - Dr. David Weiman
