Topics: Joining the Local Chamber of Commerce

Q.
My friends think I should join the local Chamber of Commerce, but I'm not sure I see how that will help me sell more jewelry. Before I plunk down my membership fee, can you explain how a chamber membership will help?
- Marilyn
A.
Membership in your local Chamber of Commerce will give you an introduction to all of the active businesses in your area. You can develop individual clients from those business owners. They may also be interested in buying your handcrafted jewelry as a corporate gift or incentive. You might also find companies willing to have you host a jewelry event at their location over the holidays. Additionally, you will be connected to business where jewelry is sold, such as hair salons, accessories stores, beauty supply shops, even restaurants! It can take a while to cultivate those business relationships, so if you join, try to attend events regularly, and have clear goals for how to make the best use of the contacts you will meet.
