Topics: Cabochons

Q.
Are the inlaid cabochons plastic, or are they natural stone?
- Greyson, NE
A.
Inlaid cabochons are not plastic they are reconstituted gemstone materials. The gemstone material is ground, mixed with bonders then formed into a block. The block is then cut into slabs from which the cabochon sections are cut and bonded to other reconstituted gemstone material.

The newly formed block is then cut and polished into its final shape.
