Q.
I have some beads that are painted, and they smell like paint. What can I wash them with to get rid of the smell?
- Bonnie
A.
When cleaning painted beads, you must be careful not to remove the paint itself. If the paint used on your beads is water based, using water on it will remove the designs. If it is oil based, as is probably the case given the odor, you may use a soft cloth with warm soapy water. Test a small portion of the bead in an inconspicuous area and let dry before cleaning the entire bead.

To seal painted designs onto painted beads, use Mona Lisa™ Metal Leaf™ top coat sealant for a glossy finish or SpectraFix™ spray fixative for a matte finish. .
