Q.
I love making cuff bracelets and am wondering if there is a difference between ultrasuede and sensuede? What is the best weight of generic faux suede is best for cuffs?

A.
Ultrasuede® is a brand name for a synthetic microfiber fabric which is 100% polyester. Sensuede is basically the same thing with the exception that it is made from recycled polyester derived from both post-industrial and post-consumer sources including pet water bottles. They are both high-end fabrics that are resistant to stains and water and mimic suede, but are not animal based.

Real leather makes for a great cuff backing as well. The dyed colors can be matched up nicely to your beadwork or beaded designs. Bead artist Sherry Serafini recommends using Ultrasuede or leather as backing for beadwork designs in the book The Art of Bead Embroidery.
